For the 2020-2021 policy year, the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) provider, Aetna, implemented a change in the co-pay structure of visits. In previous plan years, students were responsible for a 10% co-pay for office visits. A benefit change was implemented for the current plan year, and the co-pay is now a flat $20. The policy change took effect on August 14, 2020.
This may not have been immediately felt by plan holders, as Aetna had previously liberalized their cost-share policy for telemedicine, primary care and specialty care, effectively waiving co-pays, due to COVID-19. Aetna’s liberalization of this policy expired recently, on January 31, 2021.
