During the Spring 2023 semester, two new blood drive events engaged more than 100 USC faculty, staff and students in giving back to the Trojan community through blood donations to the LifeStream Blood Bank. These drives are the first two in a new series representing an ongoing partnership between USC Student Health and LifeStream at the UPC campus.

The blood drive on February 21 finished up with 65 lifesaving blood donations and the March 10 blood drive completed with 43. In total, LifeStream Blood Bank processed and separated each donation into plasma, platelets, and red cells which were able to support 324 local hospital patients.

A Keck partner for blood donation, LifeStream Blood Bank works to provide life-changing and life-saving blood to patients within Keck Hospital at USC. Adam Botello, Senior Regional Account Manager at the LifeStream Blood Bank, said, “We have been operating at a critically low inventory, so with this partnership we are hoping to restock the shelves and get those hospital patients the help that they need.”

To gather as many people in the USC community as possible, LifeStream offered $10 gift cards to In-N-Out for all donors while supplies lasted. Appointments filled up quickly, and people enjoyed being checked in at the blood mobile buses in the USC Village – even during the rainy days we’ve seen throughout this year so far.

If you missed an opportunity in February and March to donate blood, the blood drive will be back by popular demand on Wednesday April 12th in the USC Village near the corner of Jefferson and McClintock. Every donation makes a difference!
