USC Student Health is seeking a graduate student to join the communications team as the Public Engagement Team Leader. This unique internship opportunity is perfect for someone with superb project management skills, experience managing groups of students or volunteers, and an interest in student health and well-being. The team leader role will report to the Associate Director of Public Communications for USC Student Health.
Who are we looking for?
Ideal candidates have an interest in student health/well-being, an outgoing personality and enjoy connecting with other students from all walks of life, backgrounds, social and academic interests, and more. Must have high comfort level with discussing or dealing with topics common to college-aged people, including (but not limited to): sex and relationships, alcohol and other drugs, mental health and college stress, culture and identity, interpersonal violence prevention.
Tasks will include:
• Conducting weekly meetings with the Well-being and Health Outreach Ambassador Cohort (WHOA Cohort) and reporting key takeaways back to the Associate Director.
• Coordinating the Farmer’s Market schedule, inventory of prizes and student health resources.
• Coordinating WHOAs work shifts, prep on Tuesday Afternoons, onsite outreach setup Wednesday mornings, and oversee a supervisorial role of the WHOAs during the tabling.
• Coordinating breakdown and return to the office and report key takeaways to the Associate Director.
• Coordinating weekly “packing days” for WHOAs to work on various projects for the department and to work on social media production.
• Coordinating Summer and Winter tasks for WHOAs who choose to work during this off-period times. The tasks will come from the associate director or other staff members.
• Supporting the coordination of the annual USC Sex Week in October; 1-2 WHOA cohort members serve on the committee. This role assists in shift scheduling, prize assembly and more.
• Assigning student health projects to interested WHOA Cohort members.
• Overseeing overlapping WHOA projects to ensure progress/on-time completion and sharing weekly progress reports with the Associate Director.
• Tracking the WHOAs’ weekly work schedules and logged time.
• Conduct interviews and onboarding of new WHOAs as needed.
• Assisting the communications team as needed with special projects as needed.
