Understanding Insurance & Waivers
As a USC student you are required to carry health insurance. USC offers the USC Student Health Insurance Plan as an option, or if you already have a comprehensive insurance plan that is approved by the university, you may choose to use that one.
Enrollment (Opt In to Student Health Insurance)
If you are a domestic student enrolled in 6 units or more, or if you are an international student or Health Science Campus student enrolled in any number of units, you are automatically enrolled in the USC Student Health Insurance Plan. If you are a student carrying 6 units or less, you may also choose to enroll before the current semester’s deadline.
Visit Insurance Enrollment to learn more.
Annual Waiver (Opt Out of Student Health Insurance)
If you already have a comprehensive health insurance plan, you may choose to waive or “opt out” of the USC Student Health Insurance Plan. You only need to request a waiver once a year in the Fall.
Visit Waiving Coverage for criteria and instructions.
Optional Dental Insurance (Separate Annual Enrollment)
USC offers dental coverage through a Delta Dental PPO plan that provides great dental benefits at a reasonable cost. Dental coverage is separate from the health insurance plan.
Visit Optional Student Dental Plan for information and to request enrollment.
