Eric Cohen Group Counseling and Drop-In Workshops

Below are descriptions of the available groups at the Eric Cohen Health Center. If you are interested in participating in one of our groups, please call (213) 740-7711 and ask to speak to the facilitator of the group you are interested in joining, or submit the Group Interest form above.  If you are not sure what group might interest you, please either complete the Group Interest Form short survey and someone will be in contact with you, or contact Dr. Abbie Wolfson, Group Program Coordinator. You can also go online to schedule an initial appointment to discuss your options with one of our counselors. Unless otherwise noted, closed group generally begin in week 4-6 of the semester.

Drop- In Groups/Workshops:

Calm your Anxiety Workshop:  

Tuesday,  12 – 1:00pm, Norris Healthcare Center (HC3)- Located behind the Eric Cohen Student Health Center. Room: 340A Health and Wellness Suite B (4th floor). Led by Summer Zapata

In this anxiety workshop participants will think about their anxiety in new ways, learn numerous Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques and engage in self-reflection to allow participants to manage their anxiety symptoms.

Groups:

Emotional Emancipation Circle for students of African-descent:  

5:00-7:00pm – monthly on the second Wednesday of the month (2/27, 3/27, 4/24, 5/29, 6/26) – led by Brinell Anderson, PSYD.

Emotional Emancipation Circles (EECs)sm are self-help support groups in which Black people, work together to overcome, heal from, and overturn the lies of White superiority and Black inferiority:  the root causes of devaluing Black lives.

Mindfulness for Stress Reduction Group:  

Tuesdays, 12-1pm – led by Tannaz Alagheband, LCSW

This 6-week group focuses on developing and cultivating mindfulness skills to regulate responses to stress and enhance resiliency to face life’s challenges. Students will learn skills to bring awareness, presence and self-compassion to relationship with themselves and others. Each week, students will engage in a different mindfulness meditation practices and have an opportunity to discuss their experience with the group. While students are participating in the group, they are encouraged to apply learned mindfulness skills to their daily life to experience the full benefits of the group.
